Screw the planet! Save me!

I can't stand these "save the planet" types. What a ridiculous concept. It's predicated on the notion that we humans have managed to fuck the planet up so bad in our two thousand years that it needs to be saved before it's destroyed. What extreme arrogance! The Earth has been around for millions upon millions of years, and people think that we're going to destroy it in a little over two thousand? Ridiculous. The planet will find a way to heal itself. Even if we wipe out the entire human race in a nuclear strike or something, Earth will survive. Don't worry about Earth. Worry about yourself. The planet can take care of itself.

And don't get me started on Earth Day.

Will the weirdness never cease?

Well, I am having another weird day. Flat tire. BRAND-FUCKING-NEW tire, too. But I changed it myself. :D

Irony.

Remember my retro review from a couple of weeks ago? Here, let me refresh:

Okay, this is a review I wrote for the book Memorial Day by Vince Flynn. You can find it on the page for MD on barnesandnoble.com.

JackBauer24, a thriller fan from Metro Detroit, June 7, 2004,
Average
This book is entertaining enough, but there is nothing about it that makes it stand out. The whole terrorist-with-a-nuke storyline was done better in Tom Clancy's novel (not the movie, the novel), The Sum of All Fears, and in the second season of the television show 24

Here's irony for you. Author Vince Flynn has been added to the writing staff of the fifth season of 24. Uh-huh.... If copying the show is all it takes to get hired, I should have a job as soon as they read the first ep of 24AU!

Quick Reviews

Private Parts- A great film for both fans and haters of Howard Stern.
The Final Cut- A surprisingly deep sci-fi pic with a great performance by Robin Williams.
Cellular- From the writer of Phone Booth, an exciting if predictable thriller with Kim Basinger and William H. Macy.
Adaptation- Entertaining, interesting, and weird, Adaptation is not for everyone, but it's worth seeing if only for Nicolas Cage's performances in it. Yep, performances, plural.
Blind Horizon- Flawed amnesia drama with Val Kilmer, but interestingly enough to be recommended.
Being John Malkovich- Weird film. It's a love-it-or-hate-it look at some very demented characters.
Sum of All Fears- Surprisingly good adaptation of Tom Clancy's novel (my favorite of his series). The best terrorist attack I've seen on film.
The General's Daughter- Excellent thriller with killer performances by Travolta and James Woods.
The Manchurian Candidate (04)- Nowhere near as good as the Frankenheimer classic.
Collateral- EXCELLENT thriller with Jamie Foxx and Tom Cruise.

What a weird f***ing day!

Okay, as I write this, it's about 11:30 in the morning. Day's not even half-over yet, and it's already been way too f*cking weird for me.

First, I make INCREDIBLE traffic on the way to work. I left my house almost twenty minutes late and I still got to work on time.
Next, our security guard did not mention to me our fight from Friday (we had quite a big fight on Friday because of some serious problems I had with something she did).
Then, it turns out that one of my fellow employees decided not to come in at all today. Not surprising, considering that she's missed like 1/3 of the mondays this summer. But her absence today meant that there were only two of set to work today at the desk. And I was supposed to leave at 2. Well, my manager asked me today to work 8 hours instead of my usual 4. She told me to go home at 11, then come back at 3 to relieve my co-worker. So, I'm getting paid for more hours today than usual, and I'm still getting several hours off....weird....
Finally, she had me come with her and our security guard to confront a problem patron. She wanted me as a silent, intimidating male presence. Now, if you've ever seen me, you'd understand why I laughed my ass off when she wanted me to be the "intimidating male presence." My response: "Well, I ain't exactly the best choice for THAT job!" The patron was a big problem, sleeping in the library *big no-no*, then cussing my manager out when she was called on it. When I left, the woman was told that if she laid down again, she'd be kicked out of the library. I doubt she'll be there when I get back to work this afternoon.

So, I now have 3 1/2 hours to get some work done this afternoon at home, then I have to go back to work. Like I said....weird!

EDIT: Just got weirder. Car accident in front of my house. Two car collision. One of them was banged up quite bad. I guess they called the cops; when I looked outside, there were two cop cars parked outside talking to them. Hmm....this day is gonna get weirder and weirder. One hour until I return to work.

EDIT 2: The afternoon at work was nuts. Constant customers, still no a/c. Glad to be home for the night...

(24AUN) Status 7/24

Episode 4 is now up. It's broken up into two parts because of length. Yeah--it came out to be 67 pages; seven pages too long. Eh, well. At least it won't be filmed.

Quick Reviews

Hostage (film)- Meh. Could have been done better. In fact, it was done better, back when it was The Negotiator.
Destroy all Humans! (VG)- Fun, but gets repetetive. Still, pretty damn good.
Psychonauts (VG)- One of the most original video games I've ever played. Excellent.
Rocky IV- In my opinion, the second-best of the Rocky films. Great sports montages, too.
Revenge of the Sith (book)- Dark and detailed, certainly excellent. As good as the film.
Napalm and Silly Putty (book)- Hilarious.

Court

Had to go to court today for my boss. Fortunately, things turned out okay and I didn't actually have to go in; I just had to sit outside for three hours. Still had to get dressed up in my suit for the 90 degree weather. Damn.

(24AUN) Status 7/13

Still working on the series, don't worry. I'll get episode 4 up in the next couple of weeks.
