Movie Review: The Big Lebowski
The Big Lebowski (1998)
Rated R
Directed by: Joel Coen
Starring: Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi
The Story: When a stoner (Bridges) is mistaken for a millionaire, he finds himself swept up in a series of events manipulated by everyone around him--everyone but him.
The Good: I have to admit that the acting of this movie is pretty good (especially Goodman). It makes the movie worth watching, because the plot sure doesn't. Still, I laugh every time I hear the line "shut the fuck up, Donnie!"
The Bad: The plot here is pretty dumb, and the protagonist is not someone you can root for; he's got no drive, no future, all he cares about is bowling and getting stoned. While some of my readers may enjoy that life (then again, that's assuming I actually HAVE readers), I don't think it makes for the best film character.
The Ugly: The dream sequences of this film are like a bad drug trip.
My Rating: 3/5
